Agha Mohammad Khan was a king who was regarded by women as a man of importance, yet who was unable to kiss or show tenderness towards them. A king whose voice belied his manliness, because his enemies had castrated him. And a king who made terrible mistakes and whose power escaped him. This play resembles a dream in which the person dreaming is aware that it is all a dream. An atmospheric painting with all the simplicity of Zen, which revolves around some invisible force in a highly contrasting interplay of light and colour. It traces the inner world of a tragic ruler by means of staged calligraphy of silence and pain.
The Amata Theatre Group was founded in 2015 by three theatre students from Tehran University. The aim of the group is to develop a theatre based on the history, tradition and culture of Iran. In doing so, they use atmospheric imagery inspired by Robert Wilson, among others. Another major concern of the company is to connect the theatre traditions of East and West.
