As long as it burns
Andrea Salustri
Germany/Italy
Fire performance, 15 min, nonverbal
Loops, rings, lines. An uncontrollable flood of images and constant metamorphoses. “Painting with fire” could be the motto of As long as it burns. It blazes a trail and literally ignites the imagination. Andrea Salustri examines the nature of fire, its materiality in the “era of managed light” and our relationship to danger and beauty. He transforms the fire show, a common street theatre format, into a poetic act about the nature of fire.
Andrea Salustri learned the arts of contact juggling and fire manipulation in his home town of Rome where he has worked as a street artist. In 2013 he completed his philosophy degree at the University La Sapienza in Rome and then began to study choreography and dance at the Inter-University Centre for Dance in Berlin. Salustri explores the distinctiveness of the materials he works with in his projects, without trying to tame them. Instead he explores what the elements are capable of. In As long as it burns, a hypnotic air-dance is created from the dynamics of fire and Salustri’s physical movements.
