The Need to move forward
Antoine Birot

Installation, nonverbal
Space and motion – the little bronze man makes headway. Slowly, hesitantly, in time with the fragile mechanism. So slowly that at first he doesn’t notice what is happening to him, where he is being led and to what purpose. An apparently floating dream-walker: contemplative and elemental, full of melancholy and poetry. Antoine Birot – musician, composer, inventor and design engineer – questions the functionality of objects through his expansive installation of sound, animation and projections by making the machine the site of all kinds of imaginings.
Antoine Birot performs and composes improvised music, as well as scores for feature films, documentaries and plays. As a conceptual construction artist, he both invents and builds small machines that create audiovisual effects. He has worked with Royal de Luxe, among others.
