Bladder Circus
Bladder Circus Company
Budapest/Hungary
Etno-Opera-Buffa
The Bladder Circus already set up its tent at last year`s UNIDRAM, a tent housing both jazz musicians and actors. The founder and director since 1997, Szabolcs Szöke, is known in Hungary as a radiant personality, a (world) musician and instrument builder, as well as for his work in the dramatic and plastic arts.
»Bladder Circus«
Etno-Opera-Buffa/German première
What a mob! Poco, Dolcissima, Patetico, Tragico, Paganini. And what bladders! One careless movement and everything starts to sound. The set - an arena constructed from bamboo - is a sound-box beyond compare. In the bladder circus all you do is sit and listen. Clown-like characters float among instruments you`ve never seen before. With a fruitless enthusiasm they move from discussing the fates of musicians to complex music theory, speaking of pizzicato, of Italian arias and the famous bladder violins. The TIN-TIN orchestra ensures a good tone among the world numbers. The etno-opera-buffa combines chamber opera, circus, musical happening and absurdist-surrealist music theatre with a far-eastern aura. It is lyrical, grotesque and tragicomic at once.
