Machine Washed Music
CaboSanRoque
Barcelona/Spain
Mechanical Concert
Company
Founded in Barcelona’s infamous Barrio Raval in 2001, CaboSanRoque was initially intended as a lounge or house music orchestra. Since then it has become a group known for its fusion of chamber music with theatrical elements, mechanical apparatus and puppets or figures.
Performance
Five musician-entertainers pay tribute to the words object music with this concert. Using their polyphonic washing machine fitted out with various cylinders, hammers, hoses and other sound apparatus, they produce strangely unfamiliar tones, wild sounds, loops and even whole musical scores from the clothing inside. In accordance with the colour of the clothes, how dirty or worn they are, and even the number and type of buttons a certain item might have, what emerges in the end is a kind of groovy chamber opera of things.
