No more yearning! Three Sisters
Carola Unser
Hamburg/Germany
Drama after Anton Chekhov
Company
Carola Unser, born in Pirmasens in 1974, was a student of stage direction at the Theaterakademie Hamburg, Hochschule für Musik und Theater until recently and is now working as independent director. Her Chekhov adaptation, which was her presentation for her graduation, opened in Hamburg at Kampnagel at the beginning of this year.
Performance
The stage, packed with bare wooden scaffolding, does not allow for any comforting samovar plushness. There is a rather cool breeze blowing through. It is the makeshift life of Irina, Mascha and Olga, who can’t stop dreaming of Moscow but are unable to leave home. Memories of bygone days, hopes for the future – they are longing for something and yet don’t know what for. The yearning becomes even hazier where happiness is available everywhere, for sale and prescribed – depending on who, where and how you are. But the emptiness stays empty. This very powerful and dynamic production focuses on the figures and raises questions about today's Moscow. Where can it be found in a world permanently switched on between playstations, iPods and easyJet?.
