Chang Nai Wen
Hamburg/Germany
by Sarah Kane
Company
Chang Nai Wen was born in Taiwan in 1977 and studied theatre directing at the Drama Academy of Hamburg’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater. The production she is presenting at the festival is her graduation piece which premiered earlier this year at Kampnagel as part of the Weibsstücke series.
Performance
Luminous stones mark the contours of grating, poles, diagonals in the space. Wedged up against one another, two figures hang from a board dangling from the roof on cable winches. Entrapment, the search for identity, verbal battles … Kane’s despairing thought log of a split consciousness becomes a visually and corporeally intense dramatic installation comprising sound, text and dance; it allows viewers to move freely about the space, to choose their own perspective, to find their own way through the production.
