WORK
Cie Claudio Stellato
Belgium
Visual dance theatre, 50 min, nonverbal
What a building site! Nails, wood, paints, glass and tools everywhere. Precise work routines gradually gain a life of their own, detached from their original function. Technical routines are a source of absurdly comic complications – raw, relentless, compulsive and excessive to the point of delirium. Bizarre bodies filled with directionless desire arise from the assembly instructions of a parallel universe and move – with a touch of liberating madness – between ironic shamanism, pure surrealism, Dadaist happening, performance, circus and visual art.
Claudio Stellato was born in Milan in 1977 and is a multidisciplinary artist who has lived and worked in Brussels since 2014. He first trained as a jazz musician at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan while working in street theatre. Later, he studied at Le Lido, Centre des Arts du Cirque in Toulouse. Claudio Stellato is an artist who researches and stages the relationship between body and matter. He danced for various companies before working as a choreographer with his own company, Cie Claudio Stellato, to develop productions closely associated with dance, circus, music and visual arts. Only a few days after its premiere, the play WORK was awarded the prize of the expert jury of the MOMIX 2020 festival.
