Life style dances from the 70s & 80s
Cie Two in One
Budapest/Hungary, Vienna/Austria
Dance Theatre
Company
This dance duo was formed by Ákos Hargitai and Michaela Pein in 1996. Both dancers have been involved in various international projects in the meantime including some of the early performances of Sasha Waltz & Guests.
Performance
Starship Enterprise or Yuri Gagarin, Saturday Night Fever or the battle with the television antenna, twisting and turning it for the millionth time in a bid to tune into a channel in the West. But all you can see is fuzz. This piece is about fantasies of and longing for life on the other side, behind the Iron Curtain; it is about a time which is irrevocably past, yet nevertheless alive and kicking inside the body: and these days when the body gets going, it looks like the culture shock of yesterday. Here nostalgic pas de deux are supplanted by comical dance sequences in retro style, which are invariably slightly wrong and full of associative nonsense. If there had been a Sonnenallee in Budapest, these four actors would definitely have been inhabitants.
