Tricks & Tracks
Compagnie Pal Frenak
Budapest/Hungary
Dance Theatre
After ten years working in France, in 1999 the French-Hungarian choreographer Pal Frenak established a company in his native Budapest. Frenak, whose company presents a unique, frenetically harsh reflection of contemporary society in Central Europe, has on many occasions been honoured for his work. The performance at this year`s UNIDRAM Fesival will be the first for the company in Germany, and part of a ten-country European tour over the 2002-2003 season. In 2001, Pal Frenak was awarded the Soros Foundation's First Prize at the Budapest Fall Festival.
»Tricks & Tracks«
Dance Theatre/German première
A sound the likes of a bloodstream. White cloth frames the stage. Bodies burst into the room and crash into one another, greedy for the present, bestial, as if to ambush. Wounds, bites, scars and tattoos. Every muscle rigid and then we are touched with a vulnerable sensuality. Bodies in their apparently original form: without sin, for they are without shame. It is as though feelings could dissect all eroticism, every desire and every motive of the living body. A life close to freezing point: it leaves traces that are devoid of passion - yet is all about passion itself. What remains is a seemingly random symbol. Tricks & Tracks is like a stroll down the worldŒs cat-walks, where the models have fallen asleep and big money`s being counted. Like an acid bath, it pours itself like a reflection of the social conditions of today, of the energy of an ever changing frenetic Central Europe. It pushes us abrasively towards its mercilessly brutal images, making waves of rage and despair.
