A man is stuck! Very far down, in a sort of surrealist box; a box of tricks or dream chamber with bewildering optical effects. Reality appears to have been turned on its head, and visual logic distorted beyond recognition. Because things fall up here, nothing appears to be subject to gravity, to be stable or make any sense. But the depths reach unimaginable heights. All the world’s a stage, and the world that emerges here is like a puzzle that wittily undermines all certainties.
Daan Mathot began his theatre career as a musician in the theatre group Dogtroep more than twelve years ago, and for many years he collaborated with Vincent de Rooij, with whom he also performed at UNIDRAM in 2009. He has worked on and for various theatre productions, including ZEKER and Waarheid van de Koe. DEEP is his first solo production.
