/SÉANCE/ literally leads the viewer into the light. Moments from a bygone era are frozen in the cone of light from a single spot. Inspired by the fictional diary of Guy de Maupassant's Le Horla, this production plays on the empty spaces of “the gaze”, the transience of light and the uncertainty of our perception – an attempt to touch the intangible between light and dark, the visible and the invisible. Using black and white aesthetics, a poetic elegy is created from mini-sequences and nocturnal images full of flickering fascination, which resemble the birth of film.
A theatre collective that uses the form of figures, Dekoltas Handwerk was founded in 2008 by Jan Jedenak. His working methods alternate between the visual arts expressed in theatre and figure performance. It focuses on the contrast produced by a moving, human body encountering an inanimate object or material. In 2015, with its production /SÉANCE/, Dekoltas Handwerk won the Fritz Wortelmann Prize awarded by FIDENA and the City of Bochum in the category of young professionals.
