Benas Sarka is at UNIDRAM for the second time this year in the capacity of object artist, actor, director and the brains behind the „Glückstheater, formed in a basement café back in 1987. The adventurous working conditions of the early days have proved formative for the stage language, a charging language located between anarchy, chaos and nonsense that is as central to his performance today and in this solo performance as it was back then.
»Pelenai« (Ashes) (Motion Theatre)
German Première
The magic of „Pelenai is hidden in comically strange ideas and wildly absurd body images. It is mystical, illusory, evocative, devilishly intriguing. The raw poetry of elementary things: the sound of beating bones, of stones and flames. The human being himself a white phoenix, unable to fly, yet able to dance. The dance and movement performance with live poultry in the butoh tradition revolves around themes of death and rebirth, the universal cycle in which all creatures move. He locks himself in a trance of ritual metamorphosis, creates primitive forms, sounds, symbols, revealing the world piece by piece.
