Company
Handa Gote – the Japanese word for soldering iron – was by no means a coincidental choice of name for the company, since its actors recycle used and broken objects, inventing new functions and purposes for them. Handa Gote refers to a project which, alongside the examination and development of movement and design theatre and sound design, experiments with the integration of science and technology. At last year’s festival the company performed a piece entitled Trains.
Performance
Mushrooms – magic symbols situated somewhere between the plant and animal kingdoms, growth and decay. In the Czech Republic mushroom collecting is a ritual; 80% of the population is believed to go wandering through the country’s forests for that purpose alone. Inspired by John Cage’s happenings (Cage himself was an avid mycologist), this mixture of dance, concert, lecture and laboratory experiment is a tribute both to the many searchers and the beauty and mystery of these fascinating plants. Here, objects and things found in the forest play as important a role as online microscopy, photos and film sequences.
