The Trials and Tribulations of Virginia
Hnos. Oligor
Navarra/Spain
Mechanical Circus, in Spanish with German simultaneous translation
Company
Hnos. Oligor is a company comprised of two brothers, Senen and Jomi Oligor, who started creating mechanical and nostalgic toys, gadgets, light and sound objects about ten years ago. They then put their creations to work in exploring the boundaries between childhood and adulthood, boundaries which, in their plays, appear to have dissolved altogether.
Performance
A theatre tent for fifty specatators resembling a fair theatre in which the love story of Virginia and Valentino is told. Concocted from wires and toys, tiny robots, profane junk and basement bricolage, this gesamtkunstwerk, this total work of art, becomes an operatic stage for the little puppet Virginia. Whether she is riding an elephant or the train, she finds herself amid purring robots, wild cable car rides and shooting stars of gunpowder – and all of this within an atmosphere of incredible intimacy between the players and the audience.
