Company
Ioana Mona Popovici comes from Romania and studied at the Theatre and Film Academy in Bucharest. She has realized many of her own productions as a dancer and choreographer but has also collaborated in other projects, such as the English Charles Lineham Company. Nanohach is a group of dancers which got together four years ago, performing in and producing international dance and theatre projects.
Performance
The aquarium suspended above the stage radiates stillness and harmony, though fights, intrigues and power games rule below. The very same situation is varied over and over. How and why does exclusion develop, what's the price to pay for integration? – If it succeeds. The miniature scenes in Portrait stretch back into childhood, for example to the school yard where we are hit by the full force of the human essentials: helplessness, fear, guilt, betrayal, shame, pain and forgiveness. The play is a fan of the eternal themes of life, spread before us with depth, pathos, black humour and the overwhelming energy and physical force of the five dancers.
