Opening concert
Jungle By Night
Amsterdam/Netherlands
A veritable musical earthquake will be triggered off at the UNIDRAM opening party by the budding young musicians of Jungle By Night, with their unbridled, energy-laden mix of afrobeat, Ethio-jazz, soul, funk, dub and rock. The ‘father of Ethio-jazz’, Mulatu Astatke, whose music reached a wider audience in Jim Jarmusch’s film Broken Flowers, invited the nine-man group to accompany him on stage. They have been the opening act for big names on the jazz scene such as John Legend and The Roots or Mayer Hawthorne at their concerts in Amsterdam.
