Figure theatre, 60 min, in easy to understand English
Pills, Schlager music, sex and heavy weapons … Mr. Toad’s abandoned
motel is a microcosm of hideouts and secrets, a transit area for dubious
figures and broken hearts. Tragic runaways, fears, loneliness and
isolation – these stories live in the walls, and the horror of the world
resides in the furniture. With a poetic realism akin to Charles
Bukowski, atmospheric dream sequences, and a helping of Raymond Chandler
or Hitchcock, the story of the relationship between Toad and the
strange permanent resident Ovidia unravels towards its fatal conclusion.
But it remains unclear whether Ovidia’s death was an accident or a
crime.
Founded in 2012 by the Spanish director Vera Glez, La Société de la Mouffette
