Concert
Mariahilff
Berlin/Germany
Psychopolka? Expressionism? Good theatre? Mariahilff, the Berlin band centered around the well-known actor and singer Lars Rudolph, is all those things and more. Together with the musicians' mandolins, a singing saw and a wailing trumpet, Lars Rudolph squawks, whispers and screams the words loaded with metaphors: feverish, poetic, tender and sometimes as glaring as a punch. Music, as if from a drunken ship, finds its very own, very German place amongst Element of Crime, Einstürzende Neubauten, Ulrich Tukur, Meret Becker and the angry Klaus Kinski.
