MS Schrittmacher
Berlin/Germany
Dance Theatre
Company
Founded by choreographer Martin Stiefermann, MS Schrittmacher is a collective comprised of independent dancers, composers and set and costume designers which has come to occupy a central position in the German dance scene. The unconventional style of the company sources from the friction between dance and social realities. Here, stage and movement become a field of social experimentation; the bodies and characters of the performers speak of the conflicts and neuroses of city dwellers.
Performance
Catwalk, arena or battlefield – on a long bed of pebbles seven dancers are subject to a permanent selection process: for or against whom should they decide? To help themselves along they invent ever more extreme rules. Expressive in their urge to show off, with coarse body language, pithy, hedonistic poses and physical force, they ultimately narrow down the winner – but also the ones to be eliminated from the global casting show. Or would it be more accurate to say: the ones to be excluded?
