Company
Nicola Unger studied at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen and at the Art School DasArts in Amsterdam. She experiments with different media, balancing visual and performance art. She programmes software, draws and publishes her own comics and works regularly on animations and installations for various projects and galleries.
Performance
After a fanfare of trumpets, and a tuba spewing clouds, a floating shell gradually emerges. Fairy-tale-like figurines cross the stage. It is like reading a graphic novel: woods, parks and gardens, baroque palaces and modern cities come and go. Shifts in perspective, distortions of vision, optical illusions and disillusions take place. Spaces inhabited by fantasy flow into one, making the entire set spring to life until the piece culminates into something akin to an eclipse of the sun. Using soundscapes, animations, projections and comic elements, new visual spaces keep on coming, only to collapse again. Phantoms emerge in black and white, and the black box turns into a magical landscape.
