TRAUMTEXT2022
Nowitz/Kupke/Schulze/Müller
Germany
Audio piece based on a text by Heiner Müller, 60 minutes
Heiner Müller’s Traumtext Oktober 1995 (Dream Text October 1995), which was written shortly before his death, provides the starting point for the audio piece TRAUMTEXT2022. Four musicians tonally trace the author’s words, deletions, and corrections as if seeking to dissect Müller’s textual landscape through sound painting. Oscillating between dream and reality and in a state of heightened auditory perception, they uncover the rhythmic and structural layers within the text.
In the audio piece TRAUMTEXT2022, four musicians from different musical genres with diverse musical styles take on one of the last pieces of writing by Heiner Müller. Alex Nowitz is a composer as well as a vocal and speech artist, tenor and countertenor. Jürgen Kupke is a saxophonist and clarinetist, has been a freelance studio and theatre musician since 1992, working for the Maxim Gorki Theater, among others. Nicolas Schulze is a jazz pianist and has been the curator and artistic director of the Potsdam Jazzoffensive since 2019. Thorsten Müller, clarinetist and bass clarinetist, initiated the project and was responsible for the artistic direction.
