Osobnjak
St Petersburg/Russia
Drama
Company
Formed in 1989, Osobnjak can now be counted among the fixed variables of the Petersburg theatre scene. Last year they were award winners at the Moscow festival, Novaij drama. In their work they predominantly focus on the experimental interpretation of both classic and modern authors.
Performance
Arrival or return? Beginning or end? Only the emergency exit appears to remain open in this relationship. The hotel room encounter lasts one hour. A man and a woman forced to occupy the same space, the same time. Corporeal time: even a whispered word would be a mistake. Two human existences, seemingly detached from one another, going about their everyday affairs on two different levels of reality. Until they finally come together in one grand finale. It is a performance seen as if through a night sight; Edward Hopper could have painted this raw, moving, hallucinatory miniature of a relationship which cites Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut and takes Tchaikovsky as its soundtrack.
