Falling Silent
Performance Lab Sofia
Sofia/Bulgaria
Movement Theatre, in Bulgarian with German translation
Company
Elena Panayotova, a theatre director at home on both the independent and national stages of Bulgaria, has been working since 2005 with the Performance Lab. Founded in order to develop new movement material for actors and performers, her company has received numerous awards at festivals throughout South-Eastern Europe for various productions.
Performance
An empty stage. Sharp beams of light outline five female figures, their bodies poised between the visible and invisible, reality and fiction. Falling Silent was inspired by Ingmar Bergmann’s film Persona in which a young nurse completely surrenders her personality to her patient, the actress Elizabeth, who refuses to speak. The Bulgarian press praised the combination of strong physical presence with elements of traditional dramatic performance as one of last season’s strongest female productions in Sofia.
