A very special theatrical presence and aura characterise the works of the set designer and director Leszek Madzik, who together with his theatre company, has been a regular festival guest. Almost considered a classic in Poland, he looks back on nearly thirty years of work in the theatre, a career which has made him renowned well beyond the borders of his own country.
Performance
Hypnotic darkness – everything seems to emerge from the darkness before disappearing within it again. A chamber in which time and space are suspended. The scene seems painted: the diffused light, the individual objects, minimal movements and human silhouettes. Gradually the face of a woman emerges, at first youthful and beautiful, then old and faded. Beyond the boundaries of the real world everything meets at a single point: youth and old age, birth and death. The great Polish poet Rozewicz and his mother are the protagonists of this highly suggestive visual masterpiece which tells of the mystery of being, the pain of human existence and of the imminence of death.
