Theatre performance
Company
She She Pop – a female performance and playwright’s collective that was founded at the end of the 1990s by graduates from the Gießen Institute for Applied Theatre Studies – is currently one of the most renowned and interesting independent ensembles in Germany, which was highlighted by their invitation to the Berliner Theatertreffen in 2011. By developing texts, concepts and plays together, the group tests the social norms of communication, and consciously violates these as artists within the protected space of the theatre.
Performance
What should belong together has not grown together for some reason. Following the idea that reunification = relationship work, three female pairs meet twenty years after the fall of the Wall, one each from the socialist East and the capitalist West, and attempt to find out from one another: Who were you? How did you become the person sitting across from me? Using letters, poetry albums, diaries, photos, documents and favourite records, a subjective account of East-West German history is created in many voices: implacable but cheerful, nonchalant yet self-deprecating, all the while evidently relishing stereotypes. In doing so, Drawers shifts between private family albums, autobiographical research and an East-West German summit meeting on Heiner Müller, Kati Witt and Rio Reiser, always moving along or away from great world views.
