Across
Squadra Sua
Czech Republic
Surreal movement theatre, 75 minutes, nonverbal
– GERMAN PREMIERE -
The archetype of the clown – a male quintet dressed in elegant tailormade suits posing the ponderous question ‘to be, or not to be?’ Primarily, however, these anarchic clowns embark on a journey through their inner worlds, where the next faux pas lies in wait, every time they so much as stumble. Throughout, boisterous slapstick is blended with dream logic and everyday absurdity. Mean manoeuvres, nasty tricks, rotten foibles and ingenious camouflage – collisions are unavoidable, irrespective of what they try to do. Across transcends the genre of classic clowning and combines physical theatre with elements of object theatre.
The works of Squadra Sua
consist equally of elements of slapstick, absurdist play, demanding dance, physical theatre, and object manipulation. Their productions are based on the archetypal figure of the clown and the foundations of clowning. From the perspective of a clown, day-to-day adventures of life are revealed in all their absurdity. After concentrating on short comedy sketches in the founding phase of their existence, since 2012 Squadra Sua have produced several productions that they presented at international festivals. In addition to their artistic work, Squadra Sua also regularly organise workshops on clowning and physical theatre.
