Kilka Blyskotliwych Spostrzezen (Several Amusing Observations)
Teatr Dada von Bzdülöw
Gdansk/Poland
Dance Theatre after Witold Gombrowicz
Company
Founded in 1993 by Leszek Bzdyl and Katarzyna Chmielewska, Dada von Bzdülöw conceives of their works as theatre, although the common language of their performances is closer to modern dance. The company looks back on over 30 productions, a number of which have been staged abroad.
Performance
Enormous transparent air cushions, the occasional sofa and a surreal décor. Jazz sounds. A dance trio: two men and a woman entangled in capricious moments. Though they barely hint at a story, they illustrate the major question posed by the eccentric and loutish dandy Gombrowicz: what does it mean to give someone the ‘mug’ or deal them the ‘pupa’ (engl. butt)? Erotic miniatures, aggressive roleplaying, senseless sorrows, voyeuristic follies – a play of illusions which returns to the author of immaturity what is his due: people who, one by one, discard their masks and transform the real into poetry.
