The Cycle
Teatr Usta Usta Republika
Poland
Multimedia picture theatre (open air), 50 min
What if time is cyclical and world events are a painstaking and endless repetition? A hexagonal construction, made of huge walls and arranged into a “prism of dreams”, swamps the surrounding space with expressive projections and a series of pictures. The Cycle is both a multimedia performance and spatial installation on the theme of the human subconscious, combining acting with video and computer animation. Nightmares, dreams, fears and suppressed desires: each wall is a different dream, a different obsession, a different fear, a different desire.
Teatr Usta Usta Republika was founded in 2000 by the actors Marcin Liber and Wojciech Wiński in order to work together on the production of A. in Poznań. The two actors got to know each other while working in other independent Polish groups, such as the Teatr Biuro Podróży and the Teatr Ósmego Dnia. Not having their own theatre venue became an incentive for the duo to transform urban space to suit their productions. In 2001 the ensemble were guests at Unidram with the open-air production Artificial Respiration.
