Companies
The Berlin-based company TheaterFusion is five years old. Founder Susanne Olbrich studied puppet theatre at the Ernst Busch Academy for Performing Arts, Berlin. The Figure Theatre Paradox was established in 1997 by Stephanie Rinke who studied Figure Theatre at the State Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. The two are united by their pursuit of unusual communication forms and the relationships between materials, bodies, language and sound.
Performance
In the beginning there were ice, fire and sonorous names: Odin, the god of war, wisdom and magic, his wife Fricka and their sons Thor, Baldur and Hödur, in the company of Gulveig the witch and Loki the giant, romp about with trolls, dwarves and other hermaphrodites in a mythical laboratory between poetry and catastrophe. In the end, as prophesied by the seer Wöla, there is no one from the clan of Nordic gods left. Two puppeteers and a sound artist deliver a brilliant rendition of the fall of the house of Odin as a wild Edda revue and tragicomic satire of decline with numerous allusions to German history and (bad) German customs.
