Company
Since 2004 VerTeDance has been an active part of the Czech dance scene. The dancers and choreographers Veronika Kotlíková and Tereza Ondrová as well as Pavel Kotlík, the lighting designer and technical director of the Prague-based theatre Ponec, form the nucleus of the ensemble. They have been recipients of the prestigious prize for best contemporary dance piece in the Czech Republic several times.
Performance
In a line frontally facing the audience, seven bodies sway, swing and set off a kind of human metronome. Reflexes, slants and curvatures; pushing off, tipping and falling – every imbalance is corrected and brought back to equilibrium. It is impossible to force open, let alone escape, this force field. But coercion and constriction do not appear to lame the participants – instead they are injected with lusty, enjoyable, and subversive stimulation. With theatrics, choreographic moments and a clarinet duo, Correction shows that the attainment of freedom often goes hand in hand with loss. But above all, it shows that lack of freedom to decide can also result in comfort, relief, familiarity and devotion – even happiness.
