Stimmhorn (Basle/Switzerland)
Stimmhorn are yet another Swiss particularity. Where the stage is populated by instruments, such as the alphorn, the alperidoo, zugeridoo, wippcordion and organ pipes, you can expect to hear a strange droning and ringing, an ominous grunting, groaning, roaring and humming. If you add to that the overtones of a breathtaking falsetto, it is as though the Alps themselves were breaking into an archaic and mysterious mantra. This theatrical concert sounds like a long, extraterrestrial chanson, or as suggested by Die Welt, a sentimental journey over bright summits of desire, over dimly lit plateaux of meditation, sparkling, flickering cliffs of comedy and irony into the dark chasms of delusion, fear and agony. Bewitching, beguiling, pure, beautiful and true.
