Dorothee Metz (Berlin/Germany)
On The Things of Nature
Company
Dorothee Metz studied puppetry at the Ernst Busch Academy for Performing Arts in Berlin and has worked on a variety of projects. The show she is presenting here is her graduation piece.
Performance
This is no ordinary pram you see before you not only is it being pushed by an angel, but there is a miniature baroque street theatre piece after Goethes ballad, The Fisherman, raging on the inside as well. Half drew him in, half lured him in for four and a half minutes in this small-format paradise the mermen are still as close to being real men as the mermaids are to singing gracefully. Only one person can watch and listen at a time! The solitary spectator appears to be gazing through an in-built magnifying glass at the stage of a great opera house, with its moving figures, cords, opulent costumes and all manner of shifting scenes, to experience the Undine topos as a live comic animation in an ironic and subtle form, which, in this instance, concludes with a completely unexpected curtain line.
