agar (Turin/Italiy)
Sinesuide
Dance Performance/Installation
German Première
Company
agar was formed in 1994. Their work is strongly influenced by their interest in the visual arts, with their most recent productions focusing on Frido Kahlo and Francis Bacon and their respective paintings. The company also performs theatre for children and has given several guest performances in Potsdam before.
Performance
A white tiled room. A fragile light falls upon glass containers to reveal carnal remains shimmering from within. There is a female body tumbling, bending and amorphous, which is surrounded by film sequences in morbid tones. Is it an old tannery? An anatomy room? Or a slaughterhouse-cum-dance floor? Either way, it is a place precluding human existence; a place of final torment, of forgotten memory. Sinesuide is a disturbing dance performance and multimedia installation offering a cultural critique on the theme of flesh and what remains of that flesh where the relationship between human beings and animals has become soulless and exclusively consumption-oriented.
