Company
The New Stage Company is an independent theatre company which was only recently established. Most of the company’s members are graduates of the Minsk Academy of the Arts and currently work at the State Puppet Theatre.
Performance
In this Art Brut version of Till Eulenspiegel the material is the true hero: oily jerry cans, leaky gas cylinders, crooked hubcaps, old cleaning rags … History is a wrecker’s yard, piled high with write-offs. Yet the audacious clown, legendary malcontent and popular hero injects joie de vivre into the dark years of war and Inquisition in the mid-sixteenth century. Here, skinny figures made of wire and tin and an ensemble of absurd objects are brought to life. So when it comes to love, betrayal, freedom and arbitrariness, there is much scratching, grating, squeaking and fuming. And the more we learn of the fallibility and sublimity of human nature, the more sparks fly, and the more dents and bends remain.
