Bis in die Puppen Long Night of Figure Theatre
Figurentheater Ulrike Kley (Stuttgart/Germany)
The Queen
Theatre with Objects
Company
Ulrike Kley studied figure theatre at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart and Butoh under various teachers in Germany and Japan. In her works, which ever and again explore the human body as a fictional character, she fuses elements of both areas to create strange hybrid creatures.
Performance
A queen alone in her tiny kingdom: the murderous, kiss-blowing monarch strides through the ballroom of her own whims and humours; naturally she’s not amused that her wonderfully imposing gown has a life of its own as though it were altogether detached from all the pomp and ceremony of the court. In a grotesque dance for one performer and four hands, Her Majesty gradually morphs into a morbid puppet in shades of reddish purple.
