Suka Off (Katowice/Polen)
„Red Dragon“
Performance
Company
Since 1995, the group Suka Off has been creating visual performances and installations for different locations in public spaces. The focus of their work is always on the immediate relationship between human bodies, as well as bodily relationships to certain materials such as chrome, steel or latex.
Performance
Red Dragon depicts a metamorphosis that is a cross between an act of violence, an act of sex and an act of creation. The setting is reminiscent of a Pietà image: in a narrow beam of light, a man sits on a chair, completely enveloped in a red synthetic material, an artificial second skin. By his side sits a woman who gradually frees his naked body from this cocoon with a scalpel slowly, expertly and, at the same time tenderly, almost meditatively. She tests, stretches, rips, nicks, cuts, pulls and tautens his ‘robe’ across the stage with hooks and threads. Slowly, a second body is created that is both a sculptural relic and a mythological figure in one: a red dragon.
