Opening Concert
The Kocani Orkestar experience is like switching on a wild clanging party noise-maker, an experience familiar to us from the music of Taref de Haidouks and Fanfare Ciocarlica. The eleven shirt-sleeved gentlemen are a calculated imbalance, pumping the powerful oriental brass sounds of the Ottomans, Bulgarians, Albanians and Macedonians from their horns. Watching and listening to these dervishes with tailwind, you get the feeling you can hear the sounds of Indian film music with a touch of jazz from the likes of Miles Davis and Gil Evans on top.
