Trixa Arnold (Zurich/Switzerland)
Every Record is a Good Record
Turntable concert
German premiere
Extensive record collections that are full of real gems can be found all over the world at flea markets. Trixa Arnold, who studied composition in St. Petersburg and who has already played in various pop and big bands, mixes these vestiges of music history in a way that shows a lack of respect and is affectionate at the same time. As an accompaniment to stirring Russian war songs, for instance, she adds Austrian pop avant-garde drums and buzzing electric guitars. By manipulating the playing speed, adding her own stylus arms, and using sewing needles rather than styluses, she creates new, fragile compositions that have a comic quality.
